Which one fits your project
- You want a 3D body and many rescans per user: Prism Labs. It bills per active user, so a user can scan again at no extra cost. The floor is a $500 monthly minimum.
- You need a long list of body measurements: 3DLOOK FitXpress lists 80+ measurements. Plans start at $1,000 a month.
- You want an avatar from height, weight, age and gender alone: Bodygram. Photos are only needed for body composition. API pricing isn't public.
- You want a ready-made SDK in a mobile app: Spren lists a drop-in SDK for iOS, Android, React Native and Flutter. API pricing isn't public.
- You want to pay per scan with almost no commitment: BVI is the closest pay-as-you-go alternative. It has a £1 minimum purchase and lists no monthly fee.
- You want JSON estimates with prepaid pricing: WorkoutX Body Scan. Packs start at $39 for 20 scans, and there's no monthly fee and no 3D output.

Prism's pricing page shows these as "starting at" prices and says plans include unlimited scans. Its rate table calls them monthly minimums and says final pricing can vary by contract. 3DLOOK also offers annual billing at a discount, and its Mobile Tailor plans are a separate product, so they aren't shown here.
Three ways of charging
Per active user (Prism Labs). You pay for each user who is active in a month, however often they scan. This suits apps where people scan often, because the cost follows your user count, not your scan count.
Monthly plan with a scan allowance (3DLOOK FitXpress). You pay a set amount for up to a set number of scans. The cost is easy to predict, but you pay it in quiet months too.
Per scan (BVI and WorkoutX). You pay for what you use. BVI charges by the measurements you select on each scan. WorkoutX charges one credit per scan from a prepaid pack, and credits don't expire. Light use stays cheap, but the cost rises with every scan.
What each model costs in practice
Here's our own arithmetic from the list prices above, for one month of use. These are estimates and not quotes. The products return different things, so an equal price doesn't mean equal value. Bodygram and Spren are left out because they don't publish API prices.
| Scenario | Users | Scans each | Total scans | WorkoutX | BVI | Prism Labs | FitXpress |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A: pilot | 20 | 1 | 20 | $39 | £20 to £30 | $500 | $1,000 |
| B: small app | 100 | 1 | 100 | $149 | £100 to £150 | $500 | $1,000 |
| C: weekly check-ins | 100 | 4 | 400 | $596 | £400 to £600 | $500 | $1,000 |
| D: heavy use | 500 | 8 | 4,000 | $3,996 | £4,000 to £6,000 | $750 to $875 | Custom |
How we worked these out:
- WorkoutX: A is one 20-scan pack and B is one 100-scan pack. C is four 100-scan packs, the cheapest way to buy 400 scans. A 500-scan pack costs $599 and leaves 100 credits for later. D is four 1,000-scan packs.
- BVI: the low figure is 10 credits per scan (body composition), and the high figure is 15 credits (all measurements), at 10p per credit. For C that's 400 × 10 × £0.10 = £400. We left out the 100 credits BVI gives at sign-up. Convert pounds at the day's rate before you compare.
- Prism Labs: in A to C, users × $2.00 stays under $500, so the Startup minimum applies. In C that's 100 × $2.00 = $200, billed as $500. In D the rate table lists $1.50 per user for 251 to 2,500 users. That's $750 if the rate covers all users, or $875 if the first 250 stay at $2.00. The table doesn't say which.
- FitXpress: the Starter plan covers A to C. D is above the published plans.
What the numbers show: per-scan pricing costs least at low volume. Once users scan often, per-user pricing wins. In scenario D, WorkoutX costs several times what Prism's rate table suggests. On these list prices, WorkoutX reaches Prism's $500 minimum at about 336 scans a month on 100-scan packs, 417 on 500-scan packs and 500 on 1,000-scan packs.
BVI is the closest pay-as-you-go alternative
If per-scan pricing is why you're looking, compare BVI with WorkoutX first. Both let you start without a monthly fee. BVI's price list has a lower entry point: a £1 minimum purchase, 100 credits at sign-up, and body composition for 10 credits (£1.00) per scan. You can also buy only the measurements you need, such as waist circumference for 2 credits (£0.20).
WorkoutX's smallest pack is $39 for 20 scans. The per-scan price falls to $1.00 at the 1,000-scan pack, and each scan returns the full set of outputs, with no choice of measurements to make. BVI's app listing also asks for ethnicity and activity level, while WorkoutX asks for height, weight, age and sex. Which of those suits you depends on your product.
When WorkoutX is the wrong choice
- You need a 3D avatar. WorkoutX returns numbers as JSON and no 3D model.
- You need many measurements for clothing sizes. We estimate waist, hip and shoulder only. That's not enough for garment fit.
- You need validation evidence. We have none to give you. If a buyer, partner or reviewer asks for a validation study, WorkoutX can't meet that requirement.
- Your use is medical. Don't use Body Scan to diagnose, treat or monitor any condition. Our terms don't allow it.
- You want unlimited scans per user. Every WorkoutX scan uses a credit, so frequent rescans add up, as scenario D shows. Per-user pricing fits that pattern better.
What WorkoutX Body Scan does
You send a photo with height, weight, age and sex. We find pose landmarks in the photo and estimate body dimensions. Those, with height, weight, age and sex, go into published equations: U.S. Navy (Hodgdon and Beckett, 1984), Relative Fat Mass (Woolcott and Bergman, 2018), Deurenberg (1991) and a Gallagher-type BMI equation. A vision model only writes notes, and it doesn't produce the numbers. The body composition guide explains the approach, and the analyze endpoint docs list every field.
The service is for adults only. We don't store photos, and results are deleted after 90 days. Read the privacy policy for who handles a photo during analysis.
Body Scan is a wellness and fitness estimate and has not been validated against DXA or any reference method. Results are estimates and aren't medical advice.
How we compiled this page
Disclosure: WorkoutX publishes this page and is one of the six products compared. We read each vendor's public pricing, product and developer pages on November 5, 2026. We didn't run scans on any competing product, ask vendors for quotes, or use third-party review sites. Where a vendor publishes no figure, we wrote "Not public".
We left accuracy out on purpose. We haven't tested these products side by side, so we make no accuracy comparison and repeat no vendor's accuracy figures. We also don't rank the products. Prices and features change, so check each vendor's page before you decide.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best body scan API?
There is no single best one. It depends on what you need back and how you want to pay. Prism Labs, 3DLOOK FitXpress and Bodygram list 3D output. BVI and WorkoutX are the two here with published pay-as-you-use pricing and no listed monthly fee. Bodygram and Spren don't publish API prices.
Is there a body scan API with no monthly fee?
Yes. BVI sells credits at 10p each with a £1 minimum purchase and lists no monthly fee on its pricing page. WorkoutX gives 5 free scans once per account, then sells prepaid credit packs from $39 for 20 scans, with no monthly fee. Prism Labs and 3DLOOK FitXpress both list monthly charges, and Bodygram and Spren don't publish pricing.
Which body scan APIs return a 3D model?
Prism Labs, 3DLOOK FitXpress and Bodygram list 3D output. BVI's app listing says a 3D model is created during processing, but its API page doesn't say whether the API returns it. Spren's pages don't mention 3D. WorkoutX doesn't return a 3D model. It returns numbers as JSON.
How much does a body scan API cost?
Published prices range from £0.20 per scan on BVI, for a single linear measurement, to a $15,000 monthly minimum on Prism Labs' Enterprise plan. WorkoutX costs $1.00 to $1.95 per scan depending on the pack. 3DLOOK FitXpress starts at $1,000 a month for up to 500 scans. Bodygram and Spren don't publish API prices.
Which body scan API is the most accurate?
This page doesn't compare accuracy and repeats no vendor's accuracy figures, because we haven't tested these products side by side. Ask each vendor for its evidence directly. Body Scan is a wellness and fitness estimate and has not been validated against DXA or any reference method.
