# WorkoutX — Exercise Database API with Video Animations

This is the Markdown version of https://workoutxapp.com/ for AI agents.

> WorkoutX API is a REST API with 1,900+ exercises delivered as 2,700+ clips: professionally produced 3D animations as 720p MP4 video at 30 fps, with male and female models. It adds muscle, equipment, calorie/MET and Joint & Rehab data, similar-exercise and alternatives endpoints, an AI workout generator, a supplement database and multi-language responses (English, Turkish, German, Spanish, French, Simplified & Traditional Chinese). Base URL: https://api.workoutxapp.com/v2, authenticated with the X-WorkoutX-Key header. Free tier: 500 requests in total, no credit card required.

WorkoutX API gives developers and AI systems access to a structured exercise library. Each v2 exercise includes: a unique id (for example `ex_WOZL6H`), name, model (male or female) and `counterpartId` (the same movement with the other model), body part, target muscle, equipment, category, primary and secondary muscles, difficulty, mechanic, force, MET and calories per minute, recommended sets and reps, step-by-step instructions, form tips, Joint & Rehab fields (`jointFocus`, `intensityLevel`, `movementTags`), and a `media` object with signed `mp4` and `poster` links. Media links expire after 24–25 hours: store exercise ids, not media URLs, and get fresh links from the API. Downloading the media or serving it from your own servers or CDN is not permitted on any plan. Text can be localized with `?lang=` (`tr`, `de`, `es`, `fr`, `zh-SG`, `zh-HK`; English by default). The v1 API (GIFs, 4-digit ids) keeps working for existing integrations, with at least 30 days' notice by email before it is retired. See [llms-full.txt](https://workoutxapp.com/llms-full.txt) for the complete endpoint reference, request/response examples, pricing table, and licensing comparison.

## MCP server (for AI agents)

- Endpoint: `https://api.workoutxapp.com/mcp` (Model Context Protocol, Streamable HTTP). Send your API key in the `X-WorkoutX-Key` header (or `Authorization: Bearer`).
- Developer tools: get_endpoint_reference, generate_types (TypeScript, Swift, Kotlin, Dart), get_code_example (React Native, Swift, Flutter, Next.js, Node, Python), diagnose_request, get_usage_stats, export_exercise_seed (JSON/CSV, no media), get_trending_exercises, search_exercises, get_exercise, get_exercise_media, list_exercise_filters, find_exercise_alternatives, find_similar_exercises, estimate_calories, map_v1_exercise, generate_workout, generate_program, search_supplements, get_supplement_stack, check_api_key. All read-only; each call counts as one request and plan limits apply.
- Claude Code: `claude mcp add --transport http workoutx https://api.workoutxapp.com/mcp --header "X-WorkoutX-Key: wx_your_key"`
- Cursor / VS Code: `{"mcpServers":{"workoutx":{"url":"https://api.workoutxapp.com/mcp","headers":{"X-WorkoutX-Key":"wx_your_key"}}}}`
- Claude Desktop (stdio): `npx -y workoutx-mcp` with `WORKOUTX_API_KEY` set ([npm](https://www.npmjs.com/package/workoutx-mcp))

## Body Scan API

Separate product from the Exercise API. Send a full-body photo with height, weight, age and sex to `POST /v1/analyze` (`X-BodyScan-Key` header). The API finds pose landmarks and applies published equations (U.S. Navy, Relative Fat Mass, Deurenberg, Gallagher-type). A vision model writes notes only; it does not set the body fat number.

Returns: body fat estimate with an indicative range, fat and lean mass, BMI, body type, waist, hip and shoulder estimates, and muscle, symmetry and fitness scores.

Limits: for general wellness and fitness tracking, for adults 18+. Results are estimates. It is not a medical device, is not validated against DXA or any other reference method, and must not be used for diagnosis, treatment or medical monitoring. Photos are not stored by us; results are deleted after 90 days.

Pricing: 5 free scans once per WorkoutX account (they don't renew), then one-time credit packs: $39 for 20 scans, $149 for 100, $599 for 500, $999 for 1,000. Credits never expire.
